Dr. Sketchy’s has been changing the way life drawing is done for over five years. In this time, we’ve been guided by a few beliefs.
We believe drawing is solid fun and a good thing to do, whether or not you are a professional artist.
We believe good art doesn’t need to be done in an atmosphere of professional sterility. Drawing can be accompanied by music, talk, absinthe, sequins and life.
We believe you don’t have to act serious to create seriously good art.
We believe newbies and artstars can draw together, without anyone feeling intimidated or condescended to.
We believe you can draw anywhere, from your favorite nightclub to the steps of the Vatican.
We believe art can bring people together, regardless of age, skin colour, sex, gender, sexual orientation, class or the place on the globe where they live. Dr. Sketchy’s takes place on five continents, and branches are led by people from all walks of life.
We believe the underground performance scene is an amazing source of inspiration for artists, and is the well from which we draw our models.
We believe models exist in a zone between muse and professional athlete. They work hard and are creative artists in their own right, and deserve admiration, respect, tips and applause.
We believe models are whole people, not just collections of tendons. Models can be spoken to just like other humans, even though they’re naked. Its awesome when models pose in ways and costumes that celebrate their unique talents and personalities.
We believe theatre and the visual arts have been separated for too long. Dr. Sketchy’s seeks to combine them through set dressing, music, emceeing, and poses that tell stories.
We believe in using Dr Sketchy’s to bring together the different subcultures of a city to create a community. Artists and art hobbyists of all stripes can attend, performers of all types can pose, local businesses can contribute as sponsors and venues. This bringing together of scenes and crossing of boundaries is essential to what we do.
We believe in pushing ourselves. From guerilla flash mobs to lavish parties at the world’s greatest museums, we constantly look for ways to grow, innovate, and top ourselves. If you want to work with Dr. Sketchy’s, you’ll need this questing spirit.
